About Kayla
Kayla is a writer, editor, and professional Chaos Goblin who specializes in turning her lifelong struggle with ADHD and Biploar II into suprisingly functional systems. Before her reluctant intergration into the Netherlands, her life was defined by the relentless pursuit of spontaneous creativity, which typically reselted in overwelming admnistrative debt, paralyzing decision fatigue, and an alarming number of half-finished craft projects (including the now-legendary felt brain).
In 2025 she executed a transatlantic administrative escape, relocating her family--her husband Orion (The Anchor), the stead, long-suffering administrator of her external world; and their son Axton (The Ritualist), the family's true master of order--to a country that fetishizes efficiency, straight lines, and punctual silence.
Kayla's work examines the suprising symbiosis between profound internal chaos and aggressive external structure. Her journey, chronicled in The Squird Hoard Closet, is an unvarnished account of how she was forved to build an external functional framework to survive a culture where ambiguity is treated as a logistical error.
She is perhaps best well know for her inability to ride her bakfiets without treating the bike path like a high-stakes video game. She writes with the conviction that neurodivergence is not a flaw, but a highly sensitive, easily overloaded processor that simply requires a specific, low-contrast operating enviroment. She is passionate about reframing the shame of executive dysfunction into the pragmatic challenge of Chaos Engineering.
When she is not attempting to achieve three hours of hyperfocus flow in a regional archive library, she can be found walking the straight, flat paths of the Dutch polder, making high-contrast, temporary art installations in her balcony garden, or desperately trying to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius without causing a kitchen fire.
She now lives in a perfectly untidy, low-contrast Dutch apartment, having proven that the greatest form of victory for the perpetually chaotic is sustainable functionality. She only occasionally asks Orion for help with the utility bills.
